Tottenham, England – Applause greeted Venus Williams as she entered the Centre Court for her 24th appearance at Wimbledon at the age of 43. She strolled towards her sideline seat while flaunting a green workout band held high above her head.

Williams then slid on the grass while attempting to continue forward. Her right foot collapsed. She hit the ground and fell. She yelled and seized her right knee, which was already protected by a sleeve in a beige hue. Williams was seen by a trainer twice, including when she had her knee taped during a medical break after the first set. Despite the treatment, Venus Williams was unable to upset Svitolina, who is currently in the Wimbledon semifinals, losing 6-4, 6-3.
“I have no idea what I did. I’ll need to have it examined, Venus Williams added. “It is now late. However, it was quite painful. “Given its inherent slickness, traversing the grass can be quite a challenge as certain patches prove to be treacherous, presenting a constant risk of slipping.. For me, that was unfortunate. I got off to a strong start in the game. I was really getting into my groove. After that, I slipped.
Following a string of injuries that have limited Williams, a former world number one, to 22 matches since the beginning of 2021, she has now dropped out of the top 500. She was the fourth-oldest player in the main draw and the oldest competitor overall at Wimbledon this year.
Venus Williams remarked in her news conference more than an hour after her match had ended, “Right now, I’m in pain. I have so many injuries that it’s difficult to handle. I don’t want it for myself.
“Svitolina, a mere two years of age during Williams’ inaugural Wimbledon appearance back in 1997, witnessed the five-year-old Williams triumphantly claim her maiden championship in the year 2000.”
Svitolina described to Venus as a “legend” and declared, “Playing against Venus is always a privilege.”
Along with winning the All England Club in 2001, 2005, 2007, and 2008, Williams has won two US Open singles championships and 14 Grand Slam doubles wins with her sister Serena, who retired after the 2017–18 season.
The advancing Williams has additionally finished second at Wimbledon four times, most recently in 2017, a year in which she also advanced to two finals and one major semifinal. Williams has already lost in the opening round in 10 of her last 15 Grand Slam appearances. All we can say is that she persevered through it.
Venus Williams’ love for Wimbledon and the sport is clear, but it is unclear if she will return to the competition. She turned as she left the court to take one final look at the location where she had achieved such success and left such a lasting impression.
